When Your Teen Needs More Support During the Day

Sometimes things reach a point where support after school just isn’t enough.

You may notice your teen struggling to get through the day — missing school, feeling overwhelmed, shutting down, or having difficulty managing emotions in a consistent way. At this stage, many families aren’t looking for something extreme — they just know their teen needs more support, structure, and stability right now.

Guide Behavioral Health’s Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) near Palo Alto is designed to meet teens in that exact place.

Our daytime program provides consistent therapeutic support throughout the day while allowing teens to return home each evening — creating a balance between meaningful structure and continued connection to family.

A Structured Day Program That Helps Teens Reset and Stabilize

Our PHP runs Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, giving teens a predictable, supportive environment during the hours that are often the most difficult.

Instead of trying to push through overwhelming school days, teens are given space to slow down, reset, and focus on their mental health in a structured and supportive setting.

Each day is intentionally designed to help teens stabilize emotionally, rebuild confidence, and begin re-engaging with life at a pace that feels manageable.

What Treatment Looks Like in Our PHP

Treatment is personalized for each teen, but typically includes a combination of:

  • Individual therapy focused on your teen’s specific challenges

  • Group therapy that builds connection, communication, and peer support

  • Family therapy to strengthen relationships and improve dynamics at home

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

  • Mindfulness, emotional regulation, and practical life skills

This combination allows teens to not only process what they’re going through, but also develop the tools to navigate it more effectively moving forward.

Who This Program Is Designed For

PHP is often the right fit for teens who need more consistent support than weekly therapy or after-school care can provide.

This may include teens experiencing anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, school avoidance, or increasing behavioral challenges. It can also support teens dealing with substance use or overlapping mental health concerns in a structured, supportive environment.

If you’re unsure whether this level of care makes sense, our team can help you think through the options and recommend what feels most appropriate.

Program Schedule and Transition Options

Our PHP includes:

  • Monday through Friday attendance

  • 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM daily programming

Teens in our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) typically participate for 8–10 weeks. This timeframe allows teens to stabilize, build coping skills, and make meaningful progress, while our team adjusts care based on individual needs.

As teens begin to stabilize, many families transition into a less intensive level of care. This step-down approach helps teens maintain progress while gradually returning to a more typical daily routine.
