Daytime Mental Health Support for Teens in San Mateo County

When a teen is struggling more intensely, many families reach a point where once-a-week therapy no longer feels like enough.

Guide Behavioral Health’s Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) provides structured, daytime support to help teens stabilize, build skills, and regain a sense of balance — without removing them from home.

Our program runs Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Teens spend the day in treatment and return home each afternoon, allowing families to stay closely involved in the healing process.

For many families in San Mateo County, this level of care offers the right balance between support, structure, and daily life.

What PHP Really Means

“Partial Hospitalization Program” is a clinical term, but it does not mean your teen is hospitalized.

There are no overnight stays, no hospital rooms, and no medical wards.

A better way to think about PHP is simple: structured daytime mental health support for teens who need more support right now.

This level of care is often recommended when symptoms are becoming harder to manage, daily functioning is affected, or things feel like they are starting to spiral.

Who This Program Is For

This program may be a good fit for teens who:

  • feel emotionally overwhelmed most days

  • are struggling to function at school or in daily life

  • need more structure and consistent support right now

  • are dealing with anxiety, depression, or emotional dysregulation

  • may be facing increasing safety concerns or withdrawal

PHP provides a higher level of support to help teens stabilize, rebuild confidence, and move forward.

What Treatment Looks Like Day to Day

Our PHP provides a structured, therapeutic environment where teens can safely work through challenges and build real-life coping skills.

Treatment may include:

  • individual therapy to address personal challenges

  • group therapy to build connection, communication, and coping skills

  • family therapy to strengthen relationships and improve support at home

  • evidence-based approaches such as CBT and DBT

  • mindfulness and emotional regulation practices

This combination helps teens not only feel better, but function better in daily life.

Program Schedule

  • Days: Monday through Friday

  • Hours: 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Teens participate in structured therapy during the day and return home each afternoon, allowing them to apply what they are learning in real-world settings.

Teens in our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) typically participate for 8–10 weeks. This timeframe allows teens to stabilize, build coping skills, and make meaningful progress, while our team continues to adjust care based on individual needs.
